Adventures in Babymaking wins Grand Prize Award at the Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition
LOS ANGELES, March 28, 2012- Jack Messitt claimed top honors in the 2011 Fresh Voices Screenplay Competition with his drama ADVENTURES IN BABYMAKING. Messitt, a longtime cinematographer turned writer/director, was named the grand prize winner on Wednesday by competition chairman Joel Mendoza.
“Adventures in Babymaking touched me on so many levels” said Mendoza. “I laughed, I cried. It’s a story full of humor and heart and you can’t help but fall in love with the characters on their journey towards parenthood. It is that gem we were looking for. Jack’s unique voice resonates through every page.”
Chosen from close to 1000 scripts read and evaluated over the past 10 months, ADVENTURES IN BABYMAKING is the story of a reluctant father and his persistent wife as they navigate the frustrating and often ridiculous world of trying to have a baby.
Messitt is no stranger to a film set. A graduate of the American Film Institute and director of the cult horror hit MIDNIGHT MOVIE, he based ADVENTURES IN BABYMAKING on the actual events leading up to the birth of his son. “I’m totally blown away at the response to this script,” said Messitt. “I have a pile of screenplays sitting in my computer, but this one… This one is special.”
“Fresh Voices is about discovering, encouraging and promoting the next crop of fresh new writing talent to the industry” said Mendoza. “We are thrilled to be working with Jack. He is the epitome of what this competition stands for; exciting new talent waiting to be discovered!”
