JUDGING PROCESS

  • All material is read by our small group of in-house readers and development experts to ensure transparency and a consistent judging process.
  • All submissions are grouped by genre and judged according to the specific merits of the genre.
  • There are four phases to the judging process and one judge never reads the same material twice.
  • Through each phase, the finals results of each category are based on a curve, and each reader that reads for a particular category is also based on a curve to ensure every judge sees their favorite scripts advance.
  • The first phase selects quarter-finalists, typically the top 15-20% from the highest scoring screenplays in each category. The top 15-20% is determined by the number of contestants in each category and the average score of each reader, not by the individual scores.
  • After Quarter Finalists are announced, advancing contestants will have an opportunity to submit a more recent draft of their screenplay for consideration in the advanced rounds of the competition for an additional charge.
  • The second phase of scoring adds the scores with the previous round. Semi-finalists are selected from the highest scoring submissions in each category.
  • The third stage will again judge each finalist according to the same scoring process, add the scores of the previous two rounds and the Finalists will be selected from the highest scores in each category.
  • Winners will be selected according to the same process in the Final Round of Competition.
  • The Grand Prize Winner will be chosen from the 1st place Winners in each category by our Headline Judge.
