He later gained an international perspective working in the development department of the UK Film Council in London before establishing his management company Attraction Entertainment. Since then, Mr. Mendoza has been successfully guiding the careers of writers and filmmakers from around the world. Attraction Entertainment is committed to identifying and nurturing talented filmmakers and fostering a creative and productive environment for them to achieve their ambitions and exceed their goals.
Attraction Entertainment shares clients with the leading talent agencies, develops and packages a slate of projects in house and raises production financing for client projects. The company has set up projects with independent production companies and the major studios in the US and abroad, and also attends major film festivals including Cannes, Toronto and Sundance.
Attraction Entertainment's early success includes Death at a Funeral by Dean Craig. The feature film was directed by Frank Oz and distributed in 2007 by MGM. Its success ultimately led to a 2010 remake directed by Neil Labute starring Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence and Tracy Morgan. More recently, Ravi Kumar completed production of his high profile feature film Bhopal, starring Martin Sheen, Mischa Barton and Kal Penn.
In 2009 Mr. Mendoza produced the feature film Five Star Day starring Cam Gigandet (Twilight) and Jena Malone (The Ruins, Donnie Darko) and is now in pre-production on The King of Romance, a feature film written by his clients Martin Skellern and Brett Marshall. The film is being financed and co-produced by Dynamo Capital, Rodrigo Guerrero (Maria Full of Grace) and Frida Torres Blanco (Pan’s Labyrinth).
Joel is an associate member of BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) and has sat on the jury of film festivals and screenplay competitions.
